Couples Therapy

Your relationship is the client. The first two to four sessions will  be focused on gathering background information about both of you, and how your relationship came to be. Communication tends to be the focus of couples counseling since it is a major tool that brings individuals closer together. The formula of couples therapy looks a bit different than individual therapy. There will be sessions where I meet with each of you individually. What is said to me will be kept in confidence, however, I will find ways to incorporate your needs into the couples therapy to ensure you and your partner move forward in your goals. 

I offer 90 min sessions. I find that traditional 60 min sessions don’t give each party enough time to fully explore what they need to share, and can leave you feeling unheard. 

A 90 min session offers:

  • You time to transition in and out of therapy and gives us time to dive into each part of your relationship. 
  • An opportunity to meet less and for longer, which gives you time to incorporate what we are working on in session into your relationship. I will be giving you tasks you work on outside of session to support a deeper connection in your relationship. 
  • More space. Sometimes a 60 min session feels like it flies by, and just when we are getting to the good stuff the session is over. 
  • A calmer working environment. You won’t be anxiously watching the clock, hoping you get in everything you want to talk about before session time runs out.
