Art is an incredible tool to connect to your subconscious. It engages with the same areas of your brain as dreaming, meaning it bypasses our defense mechanisms/filters that are created throughout life (societal, family, cultural, etc.). Creating art was our first way of communicating our experiences before we understood how to use language. I am a visual person, and find that seeing a client’s experience brings me into a shared space with them without the need for language.
No artistic experience is necessary for Art Therapy sessions. Art Therapy sessions can be incorporated into your treatment. They can be woven into verbal psychotherapy sessions, added on to breathwork sessions, or be the main focus of our therapeutic relationship.
** Altered Booking and El Duende Painting are two of my favorite techniques to explore ourselves, and help our system understand that we transition, grow and expand. They give us a chance to change our story.
We can also focus directly on an issue, and I will provide directives to help you explore the inner workings surrounding this issue. Art Therapy can be an amazing way for you to improve your self esteem. Your art will show you how powerful you are!
