Frequently Asked Questions
Please reach out to me if you have any additional questions or if you’d like to set up a free consultation.
- What Should I Expect During My First Visit?
- I like to offer an introduction to what you can expect from working with me. Then the session becomes about you- collecting background information, and getting an understanding of what brought us together.
- What Happens In A Typical Session?
- In the beginning of treatment, we will discuss coping skills and ways you can better show up for yourself (nutrition, sleep, movement, making time for interests). We will incorporate your personal goals into how you show up for yourself. Every session will start with a grounding exercise to help you get settled in, and focused. I always have a plan in my pocket, but the session time is yours if there are specific things you’d like to explore.
- How Long Are Sessions?
- Depends on what services you are looking for. Sessions can range from 30 min-120 min.
- How Long Will I Be In Therapy?
- Therapy isn’t linear. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time counseling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place.
- Why Talk To A Therapist When You Have Friends/Family?
- While friends can provide emotional support and companionship, working with a trained professional offers a unique opportunity for guided healing and growth. As a trained professional, I am able to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore emotions, work through past traumas, uncover patterns, and to help you focus on yourself.
- Do You Offer Medication Management?
- I am not able to prescribe medications, but I do work with providers who do. I believe medication can be helpful, and important at times but I want us to focus on behavioral changes to support your mental health before suggesting medication.
